Nic Arnzen

Councilmember Nic Arnzen has been representing Altadena for three terms and is the founder and organizer of Altadena Pride, the towns community supported Queer, Transgender, and Allies celebration every June.  He is also a Diabetes Prevention Coach, head of the Altadena Coalition of Neighborhoods Association, and father of three.  Having grown up in Iowa farm country and in the tradition of the Catholic Church he has seen the cruel, judgmental, and damaging effects of homophobia firsthand.  He has been the victim of hate crime in Chicago and here in LA and continues to face opposition to his efforts in his current hometown of Altadena.

He is particularly motivated to seek justice against the surge in Transphobic attacks and anti-Trans legislation. He knows this Commission is not just important and essential, it is crucial to holding on to our rights and expanding them to a point of equality which we are still far from achieving. Nic has a strong passion for community building and approaches all his tasks with positivity and respect.  He believes open communication and intentional listening are the way to keep us connected and united as we work together.  Nic is beyond thrilled to be a part of this historic Commission and is looking forward to the positive change he and this incredible group of people will be moving forward on.

Nic was appointed by Supervisor Barger and represents the Fifth District.
