Jerry Abraham
Dr. Jerry P. Abraham, MD MPH CMQ, is President of the Los Angeles County Medical Association LACMA and currently serves as the Director of Integration & Public Health at Kedren Community Health Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center FQHC, Acute Psychiatric Hospital APH, and Historically Black Institution HBI in South Los Angeles. Dr. Abraham is also Assistant Professor of Family & Community Medicine and Psychiatry at the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science CDU, the nation’s 4th Historically Black Medical School HBMS located in South LA, and serves as the Director of the joint-initiative: the CDU-KEDREN Mobile Street Medicine Program. Dr. Abraham also serves on the Faculty of the USC Keck School of Medicine Public Health Program and the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine Urban Health Equity Pathway.
Additionally, Dr. Abraham serves as the Physician Hearing Board Member of the South Coast Air Quality Management District AQMD and Street Medicine Consultant with JWCH Institute - Wesley Health Center on Skid Row. Dr. Abraham also serves as Trustee of the California Medical Association CMA, Chair of the American Medical Association AMA Council on Constitution & Bylaws, on the Board of Directors of the Gay & Lesbian Medical Association GLMA, and The National LGBTQ+ Task Force NLGBTQTF.
Dr. Abraham received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas School of Medicine and completed his Family Medicine Residency FMRP at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California USC KSOM. He also holds a Master of Public Health MPH degree from Emory University and completed an Injury Epidemiology Fellowship at the Harvard School of Public Health HSPH. He also completed a Medical Justice in Advocacy Fellowship MJAF at the Morehouse School of Medicine as well as a Climate Health Organizing Fellowship CHOF at the Cambridge Health Alliance CHA, a Harvard Medical School Teaching Hospital.
Dr. Abraham served as the President of Emory Pride, founder of Safe Space – a LGBTQ support group for medical students and health professionals in Texas, member of: Trikone – the South Asian LGBTQ organization of Atlanta, Desi Rainbow, among others. Currently, Dr. Abraham serves on the LA County Ending the HIV Epidemic EHE Steering Committee, California Ending the Epidemics Campaign, the California Department of Public Health CDPH HIV Molecular Surveillance HIV Advisory Board, and serves the LA City Civil and Human Rights Department CHRD. Dr. Abraham provides HIV services (testing, counseling, PrEP, treatment, HIV services) for Commercial Sex Venues CSV in Los Angeles County and staffed the Transgender & Gender Affirming Clinic for the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles at St. John’s Cathedral. Additionally, Dr. Abraham serves on the Board of the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles GMCLA, the Minority AIDS Project, Physicians for Social Responsibility PSR, the National Academy of Medicine NAM Steering Committee, Pull for Progress, It’s Bigger Than Us PBTU, Physician AID Association, and The Urban Voices Project UVP, a chorus for people experiencing housing insecurity including people who identify as sexual and gender minorities.
Dr. Abraham’s portfolio of work include a number of priority areas including: caring for people experiencing homelessness PEH, serious mental illness SMI, people who inject drugs PWID, people living with HIV PLWH, people with histories of incarceration, migrant workers, among other topics including: LGBTQ+ health, climate change, brain health, healthcare worker wellbeing, reducing gun violence, among others.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Abraham’s leadership and expertise were critical in ensuring communities of color and priority populations had access to the COVID-19 vaccines and treatments, and oversaw the administration of over 400,000 doses to residents of Los Angeles County.
Throughout his career, Dr. Abraham has been recognized for his outstanding contributions to Public Health and Healthcare. He has received numerous awards and honors, including The Voice Award from the Gay Men’s Chorus, Hero of Family Medicine Award, the CMA Compassionate Service Award, the AMA Excellence in Medicine Award, LACMA Independent Physician Award, the KJLH 102.3FM Proven Achievers Award, the Los Angeles Business Journal's Healthcare Leadership Award, the South Central Prevention Coalition SCPC Community Service Award, Community Build Leader Award, Association of Black Women Physicians ABWP Humanitarian Award, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference SCLC Community Justice Award, among others. In addition, he has been featured in numerous media outlets, including CNN, MSNBC, NPR, and the Los Angeles Times and is a regular contributor on Spectrum and CBS News, as well as a writer for Adelante, the Latinx LGBTQ+ publication of LA County.
Dr. Abraham was appointed by Supervisor Mitchell and represents the Second District.
